Background

"A Radio Christmas Carol" is a re-imagined radio adaptation of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. First published December 19, 1843 and never out of print since, Dickens's novel is no doubt familiar. Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser cold of heart and spirit, is transformed by Ghosts of Christmas into a kind, generous, and compassionate man. He gives Bob Cratchit a raise and becomes a second father to Tiny Tim. The point: humanity outweighs riches, and brings redemption.

Significance

Re-Imagined Radio's first live performance since 2020! Again collaborating with The Willamette Radio Workshop.

Producer's Notes

Yes, the live performance holiday magic returns. And our collaboration with The Willamette Radio Workshop. Broadcast and live stream by KXRW.FM (Vancouver, WA) and KXRY.FM (XRAY.FM, Portland, OR).

In 2020, the COVID pandemic forced us all to ground. No more live performances. Re-Imagined Radio pivoted to radio. It's good to once again offer a live, community performance.

Re-Imagined Radio has offered "A Radio Christmas Carol" every holiday season since 2013. We're proud it has become a community tradition, bringing joy and festivities to the seasonal holidays.

No doubt you are familiar with this story about hope overcoming adversity. When Mr. Dickens published his novella, December 19, 1843, Victorian England was transitioning from an agrarian to industrial economy. During that transition many people were confronted by homelessness, hunger, rising costs, and little hope. We confront these same problems today, right here in our community, so this story by Mr. Dickens is especially important to share.
