Background
Science fiction is a way of imagining the future. Science facts is a way of understanding the present. Combining the two is entertaining and informative. Our sampling of Clifford D. Simak's The Junkyard provided a context for discussions by Dr. John Harkness and Dr. Mark Kramer, both on faculty at Washington State University Vancouver. Harkness, a postdoctoral researcher in neuroscience, talked about how memories are formed, stored, altered, updated and forgotten. Kramer, associate professor in the School of Environment, talked about causes and consequences of climate change.
